Positivity bounds on spin-one distribution and fragmentation functions
We establish a connection between the distribution functions of quarks in spin-one hadrons and the helicity matrix for forward scattering of antiquarks off spin-one hadrons. From positivity of this matrix we obtain inequality relations among the distribution functions. Analogous relations hold also for fragmentation functions. The bounds we obtained can be used to constrain estimates of unknown...
متن کاملMembranes at Quantum Criticality
We propose a quantum theory of membranes designed such that the ground-state wavefunction of the membrane with compact spatial topology Σh reproduces the partition function of the bosonic string on worldsheet Σh. The construction involves worldvolume matter at quantum criticality, described in the simplest case by Lifshitz scalars with dynamical critical exponent z = 2. This matter system must ...
متن کاملThe Spin - Statistics Theorem and Identical Particle Distribution Functions
In the restaurants of some countries, the maître d’ will seat your party at a table already occupied by strangers if the table has sufficient empty chairs. In other cultures, new diners expect to be seated at empty tables even when occupied tables are surrounded by surplus seats. Elementary particles, and composites made of them, fall analogously into two categories: bosons and fermions. Bosons...
متن کاملSpin and Orbital Angular Momentum Distribution Functions of the Nucleon
A theoretical prediction is given for the spin and orbital angular momentum distribution functions of the nucleon within the framework of an effective quark model of QCD, i.e. the chiral quark soliton model. An outstanding feature of the model is that it predicts fairly small quark spin fraction of the nucleon ∆Σ ≃ 0.35, which in turn dictates that the remaining 65% of the nucleon spin is carri...
متن کاملLinear response at criticality.
We study a set of cooperatively interacting units at criticality, and we prove with analytical and numerical arguments that they generate the same renewal non-Poisson intermittency as that produced by blinking quantum dots, thereby giving a stronger support to the results of earlier investigation. By analyzing how this out-of-equilibrium system responds to harmonic perturbations, we find that t...
